Virustat

* Description :
Virustat (Acyclovir) is an antiviral agent which is active against herpes simplex virus (HSV) type I & type II and varicella-zoster virus (VZV). This activity is due to intracellular conversion of acyclovir by viral thymidine kinase to the monophosphate with subsequent conversion to the diphosphate and the active triphosphate. Which inhibits viral DNA synthesis and replication by inhibiting herpesvirus DNA polymerase enzyme as well as being incorporated into viral DNA. This process is highly selective for infected cells.
* Indications :
Virustat is indicated for :
– Treatment of HSV infections of the skin and mucous membranes including initial and recurrent genital herpes.
– Suppression of recurrent herpes simplex infections in immune-competent patients.
– Prophylaxis of herpes simplex infections in immune-compromised patients.
-Treatment of herpes zoster infections.
*Presentation* :
Virustat-200 Tablets: Each tablet contains Acyclovir BP, USP 200 mg. Blister packs of 30 tablets .
Virustat-400 Tablets: Each tablet contains Acyclovir BP, USP 400 mg. Blister packs of 40 tablets & hospital packs of different sizes are available.
